Rolling Stone calls Mean Creek a Breakout Rock Act of 2014

Mean Creek was added to Rolling Stone’s Breakout Rock Acts of 2014 playlist.  Along with other great acts from 2014, the playlist features Mean Creek’s “My Madeline” off of the recently released album Local Losers.  Pick up a copy of this great new album, and check out the Rolling Stone playlist below.

Consequence of Sound Premieres New SW/MM/NG Track “Some Dreams Come True”

Consequence of Sound just did a premiere of the brand new SW/MM/NG song “Some Dreams Come True”.  The track is made up of “dreamy guitar tones and soaring vocals” in the words of CoS’s Dusty Henry.  The song is the first glimpse of the upcoming August 29th release Feel Not Bad, which will be the bands first full length.  Catch SW/MM/NG as they play some North American dates this summer, and pre-order Feel Not Bad before the end of the summer!

Impose Premieres Shark?’s Guided By Voices Cover “Game of Pricks”

Shark? covered “Game of Pricks” by Guided By Voices on their latest EP Summer Ale and Impose was kind enough to premiere it along side its GBV parent track.  Shark?’s cover of the 1995 song originally appeared on a Dirty Laundry TV cassette compilation earlier this year, but now is available on the Summer Ale cassette, so pick that up ASAP.

Noisey Premeires Yawn’s “Follow You” Video

Noisey did us the honor of premiering Yawn’s new demonstrative video for the track “Follow You”.  The video breaks down a wide shot of the band down to the smallest particles through its course, pretty cool right?  Be sure to check out their upcoming album Love Chills coming out September 9th

Impose premiered Shark?’s new video for title track “Savior”.  Calling it a “wickedly catchy cut” Mike Murphy praises Shark?’s alien fueled “questionable hijinks” and asks us all to take note of “When Desert Aliens Attack”.  See the wild dramatization of “Savior” above and pick up a copy of Shark?’s new tape Summer Ale.

Old Flame Records Official SXSW Showcase

We’re honored to be working in conjunction with SXSW this year to be throwing an official showcase along with Bar/None Records. The showcase will be the night of Friday, March 14th at Valhalla. We will be presenting the first half of the night with Boston quartet Mean Creek, ATL garage rockers Turf War, and all-girl punk band Potty Mouth. The second half of the night will be in the hands of of Bar/None acts, including ambient duo Eros and the Eschaton, Oakland’s Ezra Furman, and indie punk band The Front Bottoms.

NPR First Listen: ‘Hell Bent’ By Potty Mouth


In anticipation for the release of their debut, LP, ‘Hell Bent’, NPR Music has offered an exclusive pre-release stream, First Listen, of the album in its entirety. Saying that, “[Pheobe] Harris’ guitar riffs are some of the catchiest of 2013,” NPR went onto to mention that, ‘Hell Bent’ is, “one of the best rock records of the year. For real.”

Be sure to pre-order ‘Hell Bent’ before it’s too late and try to catch Potty Mouth on tour with Bleached later this month! ‘Hell Bent’ out on limited edition colored vinyl on September 17th!

Stereogum Premieres ‘This Is Living’ By Shark?

With the release of Shark?’s newest work, Savior, lurking in the near future, Stereogum has just premiered the fifth track from the record, ‘This Is Living.’ Stereogum compared the new track to Shark?’s previous single, ‘California Grrls’ for being, “fuzzed out,” but described it as “deeper, musing about repetition and stream-of-consciousness lamenting on television.”

Savior is out on October 1st via Old Flame.


Brooklyn Vegan Premieres ‘Cut The Final Scene’ By Gross Relations

Gross RelationsIn anticipation for Gross Relation’s upcoming tape release, Brooklyn Vegan has premiered single, Cut The Final Scene, from their debut album out on August 20th via Old Flame. Pre-orders for Gross Relation’s debut album on tape are available here at Old Flame’s webstore.

Gross Relations will be playing a cassette release party on August 24th at the Cake Shop with Two Inch Astronaut, Butter The Children, and Bent Shapes.
