Chicago’s YAWN released their sophomore LP, Love Chills, on September 9th, 2014 via Old Flame Records. Inspired by shaky romantic affairs, the cosmic, genre-bending album is like listening to the band’s own brand of electro-infused indie pop through a trippy, psychedelic filter.
Since forming in 2009, YAWN’s experimental sound has drawn comparisons to the likes of Animal Collective, Yeasayer, and MGMT, but the band has managed to keep things fresh and forward-thinking. Much like 2011’s widely-praised Open Season, Love Chills is simultaneously unconventional and accessible, mixing off-kilter psychedelia with infectious pop hooks. Its ten tracks take listeners on a journey through lush soundscapes, peppered with driving beats and hazy, blissful melodies.
